The Warriors boys soccer team claimed their first district championship since 2012 on Saturday night, defeating the #4 seed West Liberty-Salem 3-0 at Springfield High School. DC dominated the match start to finish by winning balls in the midfield and out-possessing the opponent. Heading into the game, West Liberty-Salem was riding a 15-game winning streak dating back to August.
In the 12th minute, Noah Alexander made a brilliant run to the near post and connected on Sam Reid’s corner kick to start the scoring. It was Noah’s 19th goal of the season. Junior midfielder Colin Klein stepped up in the 28th minute with an absolute dinger from 22 yards out. The pass was served up by Sam Reid. Sam is now #1 in the state of Ohio for assists in division 3 (26). Reid joined the scoring party in the 55th minute by lofting the ball over the goalkeeper’s head from 25 yards out. His 20th goal of the season was served up on a 40 yard pass from Noah Alexander, his 16th assist on the year.
The boys have now accomplished their first two goals of the season: win conference and win districts. #5 DC carries a 15-3-2 record into the “Sweet 16” and their regional semi-final with #1 Summit Country Day. The showdown is set for 7:00 pm on Wednesday, November 1 at Lakota East High School. Come out to support the boys as they continue writing their legacy and glorifying God through it all.
