The Varsity boys soccer team finished up the regular season in style Thursday night, defeating Yellow Springs 6-0 in front of a packed house at Ron Pinsenschaum Memorial Stadium on senior night. Yellow Springs entered the match 10-3-2 and ranked #5 in the Miami Valley. Junior midfielder, Josh Erlandson got the scoring started off 90 seconds into the match from a pass served up by junior forward Sam Reid. Reid then took matters into his own hands rattling off four straight goals stretching into the second half. With 20 minutes remaining, Erlandson found the back of the net again, his 9th on the season.
The Warriors finished the regular season with a record of 11-3-2, ranked #6 in the state for Division 3, and shared the Metro-Buckeye Conference Championship. It was the Warriors fourth consecutive conference championship. The class of 2018 swept conference titles for their entire career and hold a Metro-Buckeye conference record of 18-1-1 over that four-year span. Junior goalkeeper, Paul Socha, with the help of his defense conceded the fewest goals in program history this season only allowing 15 goals against in 16 games. He recorded 7 shutouts this season. Junior midfielder Noah Alexander lead the Metro-Buckeye Conference in scoring with 15 goals and junior forward Sam Reid lead the Metro-Buckeye Conference in points (44) and assists (16).
The Warriors earned the #1 seed in the Miami Valley district and will begin their march through the OHSAA state tournament with a sectional matchup vs. Emmanuel Christian on Tuesday, October 17 at 7:00 at Ron Pinsenschaum Memorial Stadium. If they win, they will advance to play Southeastern high school on Saturday, October 21. The site and time are still to be determined.
