What a night it was! The air was atypically cool for an August night, the stands were filled by both Eagles and Warriors fans, and the football season kicked off in the Troy Christian Eagles stadium to the delight of many. It appears that the hard work of the Warriors is paying dividends as DC pulled off their first win of the season, 28-13. “The guys played really well — they earned it. Everybody contributed,” Coach Moyer said. One of those contributors was senior Tywon Berry, who was nominated for Player of the Week by TriState Football. (Click on tristatefootball.com/2017/08/tsf-player-of-the-week-week-1/ to vote for him!) Berry scored 3 touchdowns and pulled off one of the craziest runs ever by weaving in and out of the Eagles defense to produce a touchdown on a 65 yard run! Ironically, one of his other TDs was from a 65 yard punt return. Senior Quarterback Shawn VanNoy also thrilled the crowd with a 69 yard run for a TD! And senior Samuel Thompson made every extra point to score a total of 4 points.
The student section didn’t disappoint with many DC students cheering on their classmates. Their ongoing enthusiasm along with our Pep Band led by Kim Kohl are expected to light up the stands this week at the Warriors opening home game against Bethel. It is also Youth Football Night this Friday, so come out and support your DC Football Warriors, big and small. The game is this Friday, 9/01 at Harmon Field beginning at 7:00 p.m. GO WARRIORS!
