Before the girls varsity cross country team stepped up to the line on Saturday’s at the FinishTiming.com race at Wilmington College – the first meet of the season – senior Hannah Withers huddled up the team for prayer. After committing their efforts to the Lord, the girls were off to the races. Sophomore Brooke Tesmer was the first finisher for DC with a time of 24:51. Hannah Withers came in second with a time of 25:18.
Next up were the boys. First across the line for the DC runners was freshman Nathaniel Geiss with a time of 20:01 in his first ever competitive race. Junior Nate Childs was the second DC runner with a time of 20:10.
At its heart, cross country is about beating yourself, improving your time from race to race and year over year. Several DC runners made vast improvements over their time from the previous year. Mitchell Debusk finished this year’s race at Wilmington College a full 5:20 faster than his time last year. Hannah Withers improved her time by 3:12 and Sam Orme by 2:49.
Congratulations to all our Warrior runners for a job well done!
