The men’s varsity basketball team limped into Friday night’s game against the Emmanuel Christian Lions like “wounded warriors”. With the team’s leading scorer senior Micah Combs out with the flu and several other players with very limited practice time through the week due to illnesses and injuries, the coaches weren’t 100% sure how the game would unfold. Through the execution of coach Holliday’s brilliant game plan though, the Warriors were able to persevere and breeze to a 48-34 victory. Overall the team played great defense limiting the Lions to just 9 total points over the second and third quarters. The defense was stout led by the extraordinary defensive efforts of seniors Kelly Turner and Noah Winfield. While Turner and Winfield were busy shutting down the Lions two leading scorers, junior Brantley Mills went off finishing the game with a “double-double” with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Sophomore Matt Welker had a great performance leading all scorers with 16 points while senior Sam Griswoldturned in yet another solid effort with 10 points.
