The Dayton Christian High School swim team began in 1991-92 with 5 girls and 4 boys on the team, coached by middle school Teacher Ginger Slouffman and assisted by current high school teacher Dean Whiteford.  Over the years, there have been many successes and I am sure, a few frustrations, but one thing that remains consistent is the commitment to give it our all, no matter the circumstance, no matter the race.  This commitment will be on display this Saturday Night, February 6th, 6:30pm in the METRO BUCKEYE CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP SWIM MEET at Trotwood-Madison High School’s Pool, 4440 North Union Road, Trotwood, Ohio 45426.  Although our conference is small, you will see talent from all 5 schools that figure to be representing their schools and our conference at this year’s state meet.  With all this talent on display, your fan support for your Warrior Swim Team will be key in cheering on the Warriors to Victory!  This meet will also serve as our senior recognition night where we will celebrate the accomplishments and careers of Grace Cox, Emily Golich, Madison Gebhart, Kayla Landis, and Morgan Pook.

Today’s Senior Spotlight: Kayla Landis

Kayla, a four year Warrior swimmer, is the daughter of Stan and Raychelle Landis.  Kayla is one of our Tri-Captains.  Kayla historically has been our backstroke specialist and freestyle sprinter but injuries have taken it’s toll on her senior year.  For most, this would cause one to relinquish to their circumstance, but for Kayla, this allowed her leadership skills to develop and flourish.  Though limited in what she could do in the water, Kayla embraced her roll as tri-captain and supported her team at meets and helped Coach Tom with perfecting the strokes of other team members and running sets at practice.  Kayla will put to test the time out of the water resting as she will be swimming the 50 freestyle, and all three relays; 200 medley – 200 freestyle- 400 freestyle.  When not in the water, Kayla guards the net as goalie on the Soccer team and plays on the softball team. Kayla has also participated in several J-Term mission trips. Kayla’s favorite verse is John 10:10 — “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” Kayla’s favorite team memory is when Coach Tom made cheesecake for her birthday and the team celebrated after practice.  Kayla is narrowing down her college choices where she will study nursing.

So, come out and support your Dayton Christian Warrior swim team this Saturday night! Exercise your right to cheer madly for Kayla, the seniors, and the rest of the team as we strive to our best for you, our school, and our great God.
