The Theme for Saturday’s Swim Meet would be “No Fluke Friday”.
Less than 12 hours from leaving the Wright State University Pool, the Warriors found themselves back in the water for the 19 Team Springfield Shawnee Invitational. The Warrior Swim Team, still missing over half the team and now back in the water with little sleep or recovery, were determined to prove that Friday’s performances were no fluke.
The Girls were up first, set the table for things to come as the team of Alyssa Colon, Kaley Pook, Brooke Darkow, and Emily Golich dropped eight seconds from their 200 Medley Relay time! The Boys team of Zac Norvell, Brandon Dellinger, Andrew Simmons, and Ben Geiss were next and not to be out done, bettered their time from Friday’s performance in their 200 Medley Relay by 6 Seconds!
Next were the individual events, and setting a Personal Best in the 200 Freestyle, Ben Geiss finished 9th overall in this event. Not to be outdone, Brooke Darkow turned in a point scoring performance with a 12th place finish in the 100 Butterfly and a 5th Place finish in the 50 Freestyle. Dropping time in the 50 Freestyle with Personal Best times were Emily Golich, Alyssa Colon, Zac Norvell, Ryan Chadwick, and Brandon Dellinger. Up next was the 100 Freestyle where Andrew Simmons again broke the minute mark and finished 7th overall in the event. Alyssa Colon set a Personal Best in her 100 Free and Max Johnson and Ryan Chadwick each won their heat while swimming Personal Best performances.
The final event for the Warrior squad was the 200 Free Relay. The girls once again put the pressure on the boys by dropping 2 seconds from their Friday night time. Special recognition goes out to Emily Golich who had the best meet of her Warrior swim career with her individual and relay performances! So, the big of the challenge of the day, would the boys team of Brandon Dellinger, Max Johnson, Ben Geiss, and Andrew Simmons prove that their Friday night swim in the 200 Free Relay was no Fluke? Did they ever, by lowering their season best time to 1:57.12, finishing 8th overall, and beating league rival Xenia Christian. To further understand this accomplishment, the team was seeded 22nd overall in this event and swam to an 8th place finish!
When the water settled and the points were tabulated, the Girls finished in 17th and the Boys finished in 15th.
The Water Warriors will be back in action Saturday, January 16th at the Wayne Invitational, 6:00pm at the Huber Heights YMCA. Be sure to save the date of February 6th for the Metero Buckeye Conference Meet where we take on our league rivals, recognize our 5 Seniors, and look to defend our league championship trophy.
