David – VS – a whole bunch of Goliaths, also known as, The Fairmont Firebird Relays.
Friday Evening, your Warrior swim team, missing over half the team to J-Term Trips faced almost 500 Division One Swimmers at the Firebird Relays. Although our squad was small in numbers, we were mighty in spirit and determined to do our best in this one of a kind all relay meet.
Taking on the top GWOC schools, the all relay meet featured both traditional and non-traditional relays including the Rest Period Relay, the Tarazan Relay, the Kick Board Relay and several Co-Ed Relays. Highlights include strong performances in the two 400 Co-Ed Relay events, the girls posting results better then their seed times, and the Boys 200 Free Relay Team of Brandon Dellinger, Max Johnson, Ben Geiss, and Andrew Simmons breaking the 2 minute mark and posting a season best 1:58.95 and finishing in the top 15 in the event!
The score board at the end of the evening showed the Boys finishing in 13th, the Girls in 14th and the Combined overall in 16th. This coach could not be prouder – the depleted Warrior swim team took on the “Big Boys” of high school swimming and matched them stroke for stroke.
The Warriors would have a quick turnaround as their next was would be less than 12 hours later … to be continued.
