Football Conference Champs for the First Time EVER!

The DC Football Warriors did it – they officially won the Miami Valley Grey Conference Championship when they shut out the Lockland Panthers last Friday, 34-0!  The team put forth a solid performance with 5 touchdowns:  Quarterback Shawn Van Noy connected with Darrien Anderson, David Moyer, and Tywon Berry for three of the TDs.  Ricarie Howard ran in a 45 yard TD ( http://youtu.be/J0VewDBEfqs ), and defensive end Sam Griswold stunned the crowd when he read the screen of the Panther’s offense, plucked the ball out of the air, and ran it back for a TD!  Caleb Quarles converted 4 extra points to bring the score to 34.  There was quite a celebration, including a dousing of Coach Moyer, when the team realized they were officially Conference Champs.  Way to go Warriors!!

Junior Varsity:  The JV Football Warriors put up a great fight against the National Trail Blazers last Saturday, but lost in the last few minutes, 30-28.  Touchdowns were scored by Chad Maynor (with 2!), Luke Elliott, Kelly Turner, and 2 point conversions were scored by Chad Maynor and JT Thornhill.  The team fought hard and nearly pulled it off.  We’re proud of you Warriors!DC Football Ken doused (3)

Coaches Spotlight:  This week, please meet Coach Anthony Van Noy who has coached youth and middle school football in the past, and who works with the DC varsity defensive line and running backs.  Moyer says he does “a great job of encouraging kids, has a wealth of technical expertise from his college experience, and is wonderful at developing young athletes.”  Coach Scott Powell, new to the Warriors this year, works with the varsity offensive line, as well as the offensive and defensive lines for both the JV and the Middle School.  Coach Powell is described by Moyer as “a very knowledgeable technician who puts in long hours with the kids to help them grow.”  Finally, Coach Nick Reese, a second year coach and DC grad, is the JV defensive coordinator and works with the varsity defensive backs and wide receivers.  Moyer describes Coach Reese as “a great servant who does whatever is asked and never complains, and who loves coaching.”   We are blessed to have these fine men working with our boys.

The next game is away this Friday, 10/23 at 7:30 p.m. against Clark Montessori at Withrow High School.  Please come support our Conference-Winning DC Football Warriors!
