The Fine Arts Boosters had an active 2014-2015 school year. We were able to support fine arts education at Dayton Christian in many ways. These opportunities were also offered to the DC homeschool students.
The Fine Arts Boosters were delighted to provide Dayton Performing Arts Alliance programs for the elementary school. For the kindergarten: A string quartet presented Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The first graders experienced Wee 3: A string bass, a trumpet, and percussion. The trio explored likenesses, differences, and teamwork. The 2nd grade had fun learning more about the Orchestra during The Orchestra and You program. The 3rd grade participated in Music Around the World. The 4th graders travelled to the Schuster Center in downtown Dayton for a DPO Young Person’s Concert titled, “Nature in Music.”
The Fine Arts Boosters benefited the DC Middle School by providing the stipends for the “Annie” pit orchestra. The title character and the orphans were played by Middle School students. It was a pleasure to watch the girls sing and dance. The FA Boosters provided the honorarium for Dr. James Tipps, the guest conductor for the DC Middle School choir festival on March 28th. In addition, the boosters bought the accompaniment tracks for the Spring choir concert.
- Providing the food for a reception after the Fall concert and art show
- Paying for part of the director’s gifts for the Fall musical, “Annie” and the spring play, “The Matchmaker”
- Paying the stipends for the “Annie” pit orchestra
- Providing all the award plaques and engraving, medals, bars, trophies and food for the Fine Arts Awards Night in May.
- Provided flowers for the band and choir Senior night recognition
Each year the FA Boosters provide two $500 scholarships to graduating seniors majoring or minoring in an Applied Art field and another majoring in Fine Art, Music or Drama. This year the scholarships were awarded to 2 art students: Edward Steffanni, (majoring in Fine Arts) and Aryn Landes (majoring in applied arts.)
The Boosters volunteered their time in many ways: the elementary school Christmas program, the school musical, pep band tailgate parties, art shows, Resounding Joy concerts, band and choir concerts and UAV field trips. We are so thankful for the excellent art, music and drama instruction at Dayton Christian School.
The Fall Nut Sale fundraiser provides the funds to pay for these programs and special events. The Nut Sale kick-off date for 2015 is Friday, September 18. Orders will be due Friday, October 16. The nuts will go home with students on Tuesday, November 11. Our goal is for every family to participate – the products are easy to sell and delicious!
